Media Onslaught

So we’re into a new year, but some things will never change. Based on the media onslaught over the festive period, it’s clear that no journalist working for the UK media in Scotland is going to do anything except try to put Scotland down at every opportunity. There have been some absolutely scandalous news reports over the past couple of weeks, with the BBC, as usual, being one of the worst culprits. Unionist politicians have used Freedom of Information requests to obtain statistics which they have then used selectively to portray Scotland as failing at pretty much everything. As you’d expect, no paid journalist has bothered to challenge them, simply repeating their press releases as if this was news.

We’ve even had the BBC use a report about the Energy Price Cap to attack the Scottish Government for not paying the Winter Fuel Allowance this year, studiously making no mention of the fact that it was the UK Government which cut the allowance, and ignoring claims by Anas sarwar and Keir starmer that voting Labour would result in lower energy bills.

Ferries grabbed the headlines as well, and it was down to Professor John Robertson to point out how misleading the claims about carbon emissions were. The Prof is doing sterling work, but not enough people are aware of his site, so we should all try to let others know about it.

Remember, folks, that BBC Scotland had to issue more corrections to their inaccurate news reports than all other BBC regional stations combined. Not that they suffer any consequences, because issuing misleading and inaccurate reports is their aim. The point is that few viewers/readers will notice the correction which comes out much later, and the misleading report has been seen or read by tens of thousands of people who don’t have the time or inclination to seek out other sources of information. That’s how the BBC tries to convince people that Scotland is a dreadful place to live thanks to the SNP Scottish Government.

With polls now showing greater support for Scotland becoming a normal, self-governing country, we can expect a lot more of this, especially as we draw ever nearer to next year’s Holyrood election.  It is difficult to counter this misinformation when most of the media is controlled by Unionists, but all we can do is try to spread the word by talking to individuals who might not otherwise learn the facts. It’s not easy, but let’s keep at it.

So, all the best for 2025. Keep the faith.
