Our Imperial Masters Are Coming Back

During the run up to the General Election, many of us tried
to warn voters in Scotland not to put their trust in Labour. Sadly, too many of
them forgot that Labour had no qualms about lying to us during the 2014 IndyRef
campaign, so they fell for the lies again. The cohort of Scottish Labour MPs
promised to stand up for Scotland but instantly fell into line with their
London masters as soon as they were elected.
The clues were there for all to see, especially Keir starmer’s
habit of appearing with Union flags all around him whenever he gave a formal
speech. He, like most Labour politicians, is a hardcore Unionist. He knows the
value of Scottish resources to the UK, and he’s not going to be the PM who made
England poorer by allowing Scotland to become a normal, self-governing country.
And yesterday The National reported that the UK Government intends to involve
itself in Scottish matters whether or not those matters are devolved. So much
for the Devolution settlement. As so many of us warned years ago, power
devolved is power retained, and Labour now seem determined to invoke their
right to meddle in devolved affairs. The Tories began this, of course, but
Labour obviously intend to continue it. Notice how they have not mentioned
repealing the iniquitous Internal Markets Act, and we can expect a lot more of
this colonial attitude to become apparent.
Nobody should be surprised that most of the UK media in
Scotland did not bother reporting this. After all, they can’t have Scots
learning how underhand and treacherous the UK Government is. If it had not been
for The National highlighting this, we’d still be ignorant of Labour’s plans.
As for all those Scottish MPs, has a single one of them stood
up to protest about this blatant over-riding of Devolution? If they have, they’ve
done it very quietly.
I do hope that we hear a lot of protest from the Scottish
Government about this. Better yet, as a couple of people on social media have
suggested, they should play by the same rules. If Labour are going to ignore
the Devolution settlement, the Scottish Government should do the same. Why not
legislate on things which are not officially devolved, then dare Labour to do
something about it. As many have pointed out, the first step to independence is
behaving as if you are already a normal, self-governing country. Somehow, I
suspect the Scottish Government will meekly sit back and accept this impending
interference. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about that as it will provide an
opportunity to show the Scottish public just how perfidious the UK Government
is, no matter which Party is in power.
As ever, there is only one sensible answer to the question of how to avoid this sort of thing. Let’s hope our political leaders start acting as if they realise the urgency of the problem.
